A new 32 unit affordable housing scheme in the Brecon Beacon National Park, constructed on the outskirts of Crickhowell.
The site exists on a steep slope and extensive earthworks were required to form the housing plateaus. The homes were constructed from timber frame off mass concrete foundations with suspended pre cast beam and block ground floor slabs.
A new access road was designed under a Section 38 Agreement with Powys County Council and the foul and surface water drainage system are adopted under a Section 104 Agreement with Welsh Water.
To comply to sustainable urban design systems the surface water required attenuation prior to discharging to a local watercourse. With agreement gained with Welsh Water and the Highway Department, a Stormcell tanked system is designed to provide the required surface water storage volume.
The housing development contained other sustainable design aspects including geothermal boreholes to provide the dwellings with underfloor heating.
