Restaurant Buildings, Rhydycar Leisure Complex

Restaurant Buildings, Rhydycar Leisure Complex Merthyr Tydil

Two separate restaurant buildings (one built specifically for Frankie & Benny’s) which form part of a new leisure complex at Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil. Shear Design also successfully undertook the design of a 9 screen cinema, ten pin bowling alley and Travelodge Hotel on the development site under separate contracts.

An extensive earthworks design was carried out using a 3D computer software package to raise existing levels due to the quantity of material remaining on site from previous and ongoing developments.

The buildings are designed as full spanning structural steelwork frames consisting of lattice trusses supporting hidden concrete flat plant room roofs. The foundation utilises economical light reinforced strip foundations with trench fill concrete. Access roads and external car parking is designed to cater for vehicular deliveries to the restaurants and the foul and surface water drainage discharges to side wide drainage infrastructure provided by the previous leisure centre development on the site.
