Travelodge, Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil

Travelodge, Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil

The Travelodge consists of a 58 bed facility and forms part of a leisure complex at Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil. Shear Design was also commissioned to design the 9 screen cinema, ten pin bowling building and Frankie & Benny’s restaurant and Subway outlet on the development.

The hotel is designed using traditional four storey masonry with hollow precast suspended floors to upper levels. The roof structure utilized timber truss rafters to specialist design.

An economical foundation system of lightly reinforced concrete strip foundations is designed bearing on the underlying formed made ground following recommendations from intrusive site investigations.

Gabion baskets were designed to retain the steep batters around the rear of the building.

The drainage for foul and surface water connects to site wide drainage infrastructure provided by the previous leisure centre development on the site.
