Project Details
The Fitzalan involved the refurbishment and conversion of an existing building into purpose-built student accommodation in Cardiff. The project required extensive structural assessment and adaptation works to facilitate the change of use together with the introduction of a vertical extension.
We undertook detailed assessments of the existing reinforced concrete structure to determine its suitability for the proposed development and long-term performance. The scheme included the design of steel transfer structures associated with the extension works, together with coordination alongside the Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) supplier to deliver the additional accommodation levels.
In addition to the structural works, we designed new underground drainage infrastructure to support the redevelopment and coordinated closely with the wider project team throughout delivery.
