Members of the Shear Design team recently attended the Tall Buildings Summit 2026, held in London on 9–10 June.
The two-day event brought together professionals from across the UK high-rise sector, including architects, engineers, contractors, developers, consultants, regulators and specialist suppliers. The programme explored many of the key themes currently shaping tall building design and delivery, including building safety, Gateway 2 and Gateway 3, net zero, digital coordination, modern methods of construction, retrofit and the future role of high-rise development in our cities.
For Shear Design, the summit provided a valuable opportunity to hear from leading industry voices and reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. Highlights included discussion around major urban masterplans, complex structural design for tall buildings, and the technical and regulatory pressures influencing current and future high-rise projects.
The team also had the opportunity to see progress across the Square Mile, including 2 Finsbury Avenue, where the scale and complexity of the temporary works provided further inspiration for our own growing portfolio of high-rise work.
A key theme throughout the summit was the importance of early engagement, robust coordination and better project information. As structural and civil engineering consultants, we understand how critical these factors are in delivering buildings that are safe, efficient, buildable and sustainable.
Events such as the Tall Buildings Summit allow our team to stay close to the conversations shaping the future of the built environment, while reconnecting with industry colleagues and building new relationships across the sector.
